Austin Toy Museum

Tucked away in Austin, Texas hides a unique museum.  There resides the resting place of my childhood and maybe yours too.  If you’re a child of the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s take a nostalgia trip and relive a bit of your youth.  See stuff you used to own, forgot they made, and never knew existed.  There were many of my youthful treasures there which brought a smile to my face.

The museum director, Caleb, was busy running around.  It was the one year anniversary so I’ll cut him some slack this time.  Luckily Christopher, the social media director spoke with me and is a really nice guy.  He even invited us to stay for the members only after party, but we sadly declined, only because of decency and time constraints.

The displays regularly change, so if you’ve been there before different toy lines are switched out after a while.  I myself plan on volunteering some time to help with displays, I noticed Dreadnoughts hanging with Gi joe and a gummy bear in PeeWee’s Playhouse and thought, “What madness is this?” LOL.  Joking aside they take donations and don’t worry if it’s not complete or in bad condition.  As a collector myself I know it’s hard to part with our nostalgic treasures so you can also just loan part of your collection to show it, honestly it’s just collecting dust on your shelf or in storage so why not.

So if you’re close to Austin and like to stray off the beaten path, check it out, and support your local geeks.

P.S. the arcade is set on free
